God Is
It is interesting how many gods from various beliefs such as those of the ancient Greeks or Romans have various beginnings. There are numerous myths and stories surrounding how their different gods came into being.
For example, Zeus, the “king of the gods”, who many might think of as the first was born of Cronus, according to the myths. Even Cronus was also born of another. These gods had beginnings and origins.
If we look back in Genesis, we can see our introduction to God. Genesis 1:1 reads, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Our introduction is simply, “In the beginning God created”.
There is no story of origin. There are no myths of His birth. We are simply shown that God is. In fact, in Revelation 1:8 we are told that God is “the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End”. God is, was, and is to come. There is no beginning or end for God: He is.
As we look around us we can see the evidence that God indeed is. We can look at our everyday lives, at nature, at space and the earth itself. There are so many things that go to show that God is.
There are so many things around us and in and outside of the earth that wow us, giving evidence of God. One such example is with the dolphin. When the dolphin sleeps it sleeps with one eye open. It swims in a circle so that the open eye faces outwards. It actually only rests one half of its brain when sleeping, so it can remain alert and keep a look out for danger. After the dolphin has rested one side of its brain it will switch sides, swim in a circle of opposite direction with its other eye open, and proceed to let the other half of its brain rest.
Such amazing behaviour and ability of the dolphin is just one small example of what God has done. It is one small example which is a large piece of evidence that God is; that the universe and all things within it were not mere accidents and coincidences that somehow appeared. It is a piece of evidence that goes to show that we, the things around us, and the entire universe were created—just as we are told in Genesis 1:1.
Throughout the Bible we are told of God and we know that He created all things. And even as we look around us, there are countless examples that go to prove this very fact. The only way that everything can be explained and make sense is to have the conclusion that God is.
