So Many Blessings
There is a song that we sing sometimes called “Count You Blessings”. The chorus of the song goes:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Those words are so true. There are so many blessings for us to count. Quite often we take for granted all that we have. We have so much and we are so fortunate, but sometimes we don’t realize that we are indeed blessed. There are probably a lot of times where we dwell on our struggles and troubles and forget about all of the blessings that we have.
But if we take the time and think on all that we have - if we try to count our blessings and name them one by one - I’m sure we will be surprised at the amount of blessings that we have been so richly blessed with. It would likely be harder to keep track of the number of blessings than it would be to come up with the actual blessings themselves.
We can easily look around us and start listing off the blessings. We have homes to live in, clothes to wear, family and friends to love and have fun with, and our lives. Many of us have good health, means to travel, and items for entertainment. The number of blessings are infinite.
As Christians, we have many other blessings as well. In Proverbs 10:6 it reads, “Blessings are on the head of the righteous”. Those who are children of God also have spiritual blessings to add to our list. Our spiritual blessings also far outweigh our physical ones.
The spiritual blessings that we have are given to us by God, as are all our blessings. However, our spiritual blessings are given to us through Jesus. In Ephesians 1:3 it reads, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”.
Through Jesus we are blessed with the connection to God through prayer with Jesus as our mediator. Through Jesus we can have our sins washed away. Through Jesus we have a hope of eternal life in heaven—in paradise—with our Father. We truly are blessed with so many blessings.
