God Is Our Strength
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea”. — Psalm 46:1-2
We as humans are such weak creatures. There are short comings and limitations on all of our physical, emotional, and intellectual attributes and abilities. This is a simple fact that most realize and yet it is a fact that many come to worry about.
Many troubles arise and people tend to lend themselves to worrying. Many people try to go about things on their own. They try to solve their problems with their own strength. While solving minor problems on our own may not be very inconvenient or difficult, when it comes to harder and larger problems many will struggle and become stressful. Fears arise about whether or not we can make it out of the situation. We may be afraid that things won’t work out.
Since we are such weak creatures, worry and fear in the face of difficult problems definitely seems rational. Sometimes people seek others for help, which can help, but when receiving help from other people, the help provided will not be perfect. The strength of another flawed individual is definitely helpful, but even that does not help solve all of our problems. Situations can still seem overwhelming.
Fortunately for us, as Christians, we have more help. We have a greater strength, one that is not flawed; one that is perfect. It is a strength that can get us through any situation, no matter the difficulty. All we need to do is use it. We need to recognize that strength and utilize it. That strength is the strength of God.
With that strength we do not need to fear. As it says in Psalm 46:2 “we will not fear”. No matter what happens we will have no reason to fear. If the earth is removed, if the mountains are carried away, if we are under a lot of pressure at work or school, or if we have financial troubles building up, we have no need to be afraid.
We have no need to fear since “God is our refuge and strength”. God, the Greatest Being, the Creator of all things, the Overseer of all things, is our strength. There is no greater power. There is nothing that cannot be accomplished or overcome with God as our strength.
