Love Is The Greatest
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13.
We need to have faith, hope, and love. We need to have a faith in God and the plan of salvation that He has set fourth through His Son, Jesus Christ. We need to have that hope in heaven - that we will be saved if we follow God’s word. We need to have love and be full of love.
Each of those three things need to be found within the Christian, but love is given a greater emphasis. Love is the greatest. But why is that?
There are a couple things that make sense for love being the greatest. One such reason is that faith and hope will not last forever. We need to have faith because we believe in an all powerful God whom we cannot see. We also need to hope for that paradise that awaits faithful Christians.
When the Judgement is passed and the saved ones are all together in that great home in heaven - in the glorious presence of the one true God - we will have no need for faith or hope.
We won’t need faith because we will see God. We won’t need to hope for something else because we will have all that we need - all that we will ever need!
Love will be needed always. Even when in heaven, God’s children will need to love God along with one another.
Love is also the greatest because God is love.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8.
Love comes from God and in order for us to come to God and know Him we must have love. This stands true not just now, but for all eternity. Those who wish to know and be with God must love.
We know that God is the greatest. We also know that God is love. Since God is the greatest and He is love we can easily see how it makes sense to state that love is indeed the greatest.
