God’s Mighty Power - His Control of the Human Body

The human body is a marvellous and complicated thing. There are so many intricate details that make the body a difficult thing to fully understand. It is so amazing what the body can do and what it can withstand; it is incredible how much the body can recover from - how a cut can heal, a broken bone can mend, and how the skin can grow back.

Our own body is a perfect example of evidence for a powerful and almighty God; a Creator - our Creator! While the body is so versatile, it is also important to realize how many constraints and limitations our bodies have. Our body is filled with regulatory conditions that must fall within certain ranges, such as our body temperature. And many illnesses and diseases can mess with our bodies and affect our health.

These illnesses will have some form of physical explanation (even if we do not know it) of how they get to us and affect us. However, the Lord has complete control over the human body. He created our bodies and can affect it in any way that He sees fit. We can see examples throughout the Bible of God’s power over the human body.

1 Sam. 5:1-12. After the Philistines had taken the ark of God and seen their idol bowed down before it, they attempted to get rid of the ark.  Once the ark was out of the city the men of Ashdod were struck and their bodies developed tumors. God has such great power that He could infect every man in the city with tumors.

Another example of God’s power and control over the human body can be found in Luke 5:17-26. In this passage a paralytic was let down through the roof when Jesus was teaching. Jesus forgave him of his sins and then told the paralytic to “arise, take up your bed, and go to your house” (v.24). Immediately after Jesus said those words, the paralytic was healed; he got up, took his bed, and left to his own house.

Jesus also healed a deaf, mute man (Mark 7:31-37) and a blind man (Mark 8:22-26) among many, many others, further showing His control over the body.

God truly has immeasurable power! The body that He has given us is a grand marvel. And His control over the body further expresses the might of our Lord. Our God is a mighty God full of strength, wisdom, and power!
