Outnumbered But Not Outmatched
Often in movies and novels it seems that the heroes are outnumbered and against the ropes. The audience is made to wonder how the good guys can make it out on top. Yet the heroes push on. They overcome the odds and become victorious by the end of the piece of fiction.
It is exciting to view these incredible battles, but we should remember that we are in our own battle. We, like the heroes on TV, are outnumbered! There are temptations all around us and persecutions await at every turn.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8
Our enemy is all around us. Satan is constantly circling us awaiting an opportunity to strike. It might seem hopeless, but there is a light: our shining Hope and Saviour. That Hope and Saviour is Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 1:1).
God has come to our rescue. He has provided the support and weaponry that we need to survive the onslaught from the enemy. In Ephesians 6:10-20, we read of the armour of God: the defensive gear that we need to survive and come out of the battle victorious.
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
For with God nothing will be impossible. Luke 1:37
While things may look grim sometimes, we can be sure that it is possible to overcome the odds. With God’s help we can do everything that we need. He has provided everything that we need to know to attain salvation.
We are outnumbered, but with God we won’t be outmatched!
