The Lord’s Name Is Evidence Towards
Him Being The True God
Now therefore, what have I here,” says the LORD,
“ That My people are taken away for nothing?
Those who rule over them
Make them wail,” says the LORD,
“ And My name is blasphemed continually every day.
Therefore My people shall know My name;
Therefore they shall know in that day
That I am He who speaks:
‘ Behold, it is I.’” — Isaiah 52:5-6
We know that God’s name is taken in vain each day. It happens all around us by people of the world. As faithful servants to the one true God we know that we are not to take the name of the Lord in vain (Exodus 20:7).
We know that there are many names that the Lord can be referred to by, such as Lord, I AM, and Christ (Psalm 83:18, Exodus 3:13-15, John 4:25-26). This gives people of the world many different ways to take His name in vain.
While it would obviously be wonderful if our heavenly Father and loving Saviour’s names were not taken in vain, we can see with the help of Isaiah 52 that this is further proof that we are worshipping the true Creator of all!
In verses 5 and 6 of Isaiah 52 we see that even back in that time the Lord’s name was continually taken in vain. However, because of that, God’s people were very familiar with His name. Also, because of the Lord’s name being continually taken in vain, His people would know that that is who was speaking - and who was and is the true God.
Today, with God’s name being used inappropriately we know that God is a real being who inspired the Scriptures and created the universe. We can add this to the large list of proof that God, whom we worship, is the true God and Christ is His Son. Is any other name used in vain as often as our Lord’s?
People of the world throw around God’s great names without a care, but we know the importance and significance of His names; we know that it is God who speaks to us through the Bible.
