Read God’s Word
Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the LORD!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.
You have commanded us
To keep Your precepts diligently.
Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!
Then I would not be ashamed,
When I look into all Your commandments.
I will praise You with uprightness of heart,
When I learn Your righteous judgments.
I will keep Your statutes;
Oh, do not forsake me utterly!
How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You. — Psalms 119:1-11
Christians want to walk with God and be living a life that is pleasing to Him. We want to be blessed by keeping “His testimonies”. If we are going to be righteous people, who are headed for heaven, we need to learn God’s righteous judgements, which we do by opening up the Scriptures and reading them.
Mark Twain said, “People say when they get to heaven, they’ll fly around from cloud to cloud playing a harp; but I don’t see too many people trying to learn how to fly or too many taking harp lessons to get ready for the event.”
It is one thing to say that we want to be godly people and that we want to make it to heaven, but how many are preparing - how many are opening the Word and truly to trying learn?
We need to make sure that we are filling ourselves with the goodness that is found in the Holy Bible. With this new year let’s attempt to read our bibles daily and become more learned in God’s commandments. Then we will be better able to live properly, so when we look in the Scriptures we “would not be ashamed”.
