A New Man
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
But you have not so learned Christ, 21if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:17-24
When we become a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ we should become a changed person. After we have joined the body of Christ and the family of God we should have a change in our thoughts and actions - our ways should differ from before. Becoming a child of God means putting on a new man!
No longer should we act like the world acts; no longer should we behave like we previously behaved; no longer should we be ignorant, walking in the futility of our own minds.
As faithful followers of Christ we should be a changed person. If we have indeed heard the teachings of Christ and obeyed the truth that is in Him, then we will put off our old ways and former conduct. The self-centered person of old should be a distant memory. Instead we should have a renewed mind that is focused on the things above (Colossians 3:2).
Those who are in Christ are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), having let the old things pass away and becoming a new creature. As a new creature we put the will of God before our own, seeking first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33) and submitting to Him (James 4:7).
Let us try and put on righteousness and holiness, following after Christ and being obedient children of God, as we ought to be. Let’s live as a true new creation in Christ!
