God’s Pure Words
Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases!
For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.
They speak idly everyone with his neighbor;
With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,
And the tongue that speaks proud things,
Who have said,
“With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are our own;
Who is lord over us?”
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy,
Now I will arise,” says the Lord;
“I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.”
The words of the Lord are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.
You shall keep them, O Lord,
You shall preserve them from this generation forever.
The wicked prowl on every side,
When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
Psalm 12
Many of the world use words idly. Their speech can be full of ill-will and words of malice and deceit. People can cut down the tallest person with the smallest words. They speak with vain repetitions (Matthew 6:7). They blaspheme our Lord and deny His power and existence.
With words they lie to one another. With words they cut others down and build themselves up. Worldly words are filled with pride, pain, and profanity.
Through the dark shadows cast by the words of men, shines the bright hope-filled words of our Lord. God’s words are pure! “Like silver tried in a furnace”, God’s words are tried and true. We can trust in His word for God cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
Through God’s words He created the heavens and the earth. Through God’s words we are made aware of His plan of salvation for us. God’s words are filled with true love, true hope, and true happiness. God’s words are pure!
