Our Attitude: To Brethren
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35
Love is an important attribute of the Christian. And that love should be directed everywhere in what we do and in whom we interact with. We show love towards God, as we are commanded, and we also are to show love to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We should have a loving, endearing attitude towards our brethren.
with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:2-3
With love as our root, we will possess other aspects to our attitude that are befitting of a Christian to have towards another Christian. Love will cause us to have patience with each other—to bear with one another. We need to have an attitude that lends itself to unity. Each of us are to have that desire to work together to be one in Christ. This unity and love will allow us to be peaceable with one another and willing to forgive one another (Ephesians 4:32).
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 3:13
For our brethren, we should be willing and ready to help each other and console one another. There should be an eagerness in our attitude to want to help each other grow - to build our fellow followers of Christ up. Teaching one another, edifying one another, and exhorting one another is an important part of showing brotherly love. This is something that should happen often.
Having fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to travel with along the path of righteousness is a wonderful blessing. Let us ensure that we recognize this great gift and show the proper attitude towards our brethren.
