Our Attitude: To Difficulties
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
James 1:2-4, 12
We notice in James 1:2 that James doesn’t say “if” you fall into trials, but “when”. Every single person encounters difficulties and various trials and hurdles to overcome. Christians are no exception. We face numerous challenges daily - many of which may challenge our faith.
When we encounter these trials we should see the challenge as an opportunity to grow - as a workout for our character. We need to have a positive attitude and show patience and perseverance. Hope in the things Jesus’ has promised should drive us forward to conquer the trials we face. We need to have faith that with God we can indeed overcome any and all hardships.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
When challenges arise we should remind ourselves of God’s love and show that we have a loving attitude. Those who have love for God and who believe in Him can be comforted, knowing that things will work out. The Christian does not need to worry.
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9
When faced with hardships we cannot lose heart. We need to stand strong on a firm foundation (found in Jesus). We cannot grow weary and give up, but we must be firm in our beliefs and convictions. If we have confidence in God’s word and in His power, we can rest easy and be assured that all things will work together for good.
